Brian arrived at the coffee house to meet Monica first, so the two of them sat together for a moment waiting on Holly, discussing what they had learned thus far. âIsaac told me about his run-ins with Luke and Jehu when he was a kid. Sounds like it was pretty brutal,â Monica said.
âYeah, Iâve heard,â Brian said. âWhat did he tell you about the crime scene?â
âHis story pretty much meshes with everyone elseâs. He says that he came up on the body, that Ronnie showed up next, and then Jehu, and that Jehu tackled him and started accusing him,â Monica said.
âDangâ¦even his story doesnât make him look good,â Brian said. âFirst on the scene. His pen sticking out of the victimâs eye⦠Weâve got to find something more concrete than his word.â
âI know,â Monica said. âHow about your meeting with Tiff? How did it go?â
Brian rolled his eyes. âI wasnât able to find her. Showed up at the office for the local paper, and they told me she was out in the field. I looked around, and she wasnât there. She has around five stories sheâs working on today, so there really is no telling where she is at.â
âDang,â Monica said. âIâm sure weâll get a hold of her soon enough.â
âI hope so,â Brian said. âI hope she interviewed someone who might have information weâre lacking.â
Just as he was saying this, Holly came running up, looking falsely frazzled. âMonica! I need your help with something right now!â she exclaimed.
âEverything okay?â Brian started to jump up.
âOhâ¦umâ¦yeah, everythingâs fine⦠Itâs aâ¦a girl emergency,â Holly said, and Brian frowned.
âLike⦠Oh!â he said. âYeah, you do what you need to do.â
Holly snagged Monica by the wrist. âLetâs go, please,â she said. âBrian, weâll catch you later, okay?â
âUmâ¦okay? I guess Iâll see what I can do about finding Tiff,â he said, watching them both dart off.
âGood one,â Monica muttered to Holly as she snagged her bike, and the two of them disappeared around the corner.
âWell, you didnât exactly give me enough time to plan anything, now did you?â Holly asked. âWhat big emergency do you have exactly that you needed me to get us both away from Brian? We are trying to get Isaac out of jail, you know? And we really need to be focused on that, donât you think?â
Monica nodded. âOf course, and I wouldnât pull our attention away from that unless it was really urgent. Letâs get to the shop, and Iâll explain everything once we get there, and I promise youâll agree with me that we need to address this.â
Holly sighed but relented. Once they arrived at the shop, Monicaâs Aunt Wilma excitedly made the ladies some coffee, eager to tell them about how she had sold an entire collection of classics. âI appreciate you filling in, Aunt Wilma,â Monica said. âBut we may have an emergency on our hands.â
âI know you have an emergency,â Aunt Wilma said. âIsnât that why Iâm filling in for you? Or are you saying you
